Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus psy62 Genome

Overview

Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas) is the pathogen for the citrusgreening disease. It is a gram-negative bacteria in the Rhizobiaceae family. The term Candidatus is used to indicate that it has not proved possible to maintain this bacterium in culture. CLas is typically identified using PCR amplification of the 16S rRNA gene with specific primers. The USDA NAL and CABI pages have more information.
Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus psy62 resources 
CLas strain psy62 was sequenced using the DNA extracted from a single CLas-infected psyllid. The 1.23 Mb genome has an average 36.5% GC content.You can find more information about the genome on the NCBI genome page. Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus UF506 phage resources 
Shotgun sequencing and a fosmid DNA library of curated CLas UF506, originally derived from citrus symptomatic for HLB, revealed two largely homologous, circular phage genomes, SC1 and SC2. SC2 encoded putative adhesin and peroxidase genes that had not previously been identified in CLas psy62 and which may be involved in lysogenic conversion.
